D3 racing brings the spirit of the 60s back to Buena Park Raceway. D3 founder/president Paul Sterrett and Mike Steube shared a common vision, to create a scratchbuilding/racing class which reminds them of the golden years of slot car racing. D3 scratchbuilding/ racing emphasizes fun, creative scratchbuilding, low cost motors and camaraderie. The original founding D3 committee members were Paul Sterrett, Mike Steube, Philippe de Lespinay, and Dennis Samson. This 1/24 slotcar racing class emphasizes scratchbuilding inline/anglewinder cars based on the 1966-1973 period. The 1966 to 1968 period was considered the golden age of slotcar racing. It all started in Southern California in 1966. The initial race series in 1966 was sponsored by Rod and Custom magazine, followed by Car Model Magazine in 1967 and Model Car Science magazine for 1968. All 3 magazines as well as Model Racing Journal (a biweekly newsletter published by Mike Morrissey and John Cukras) devoted several pages of race coverage of these bimonthly races. Slot car enthusiasts all over the world read these magazines to keep up with the ever changing competitive world of slotcar racing. Come join us for D3 racing at Buena Park Raceway.
