The race day begins at 8:30 am with the handout motor registration

image

"Post Office" photos were used to identify each Zombie racer. Here's Oscar Morales who happened to be celebrating his birthday. Happy Birthday Oscar.

image

Hiding behind the video camera is Bella "Nesta, 68Caddy" Szabo. Bella and his girlfriend Kathy (and a few others) spent the entire day video taping the event. Thanks Bella and Kathy!

image

Motor handout being conducted by Mill Conroy (left) and Mike "Who" Aguirre. Oscar pays his $35 for two races and one TSR D3 motor for the first race on the flat track. The 2nd race is on the King using ProSlot BigDog motors.

Jeff Bell begins the day by describing the podium trophies. That's Rick Salvino at the race director's stand.

image

BPR was full of NorCal, SoCal racers as soon as the track opened at 8 am.

image

Racers couldn't wait to try out their cars in preparation for the first race of the day on the BPR flat track.

image

Some of the race prizes on display. A big thank you to Jeff Bell and Jeff Bigelow for having the various sponsors provide race prizes. The biggest prize was a 3rd Eye Controller.

image

Looks like a racer has been banned from the track!

image

Nah, it's just "the Vitter" choosing to have all this room to himself. He was setup right next to Harley's BBQ! Good decision Dave!

image

Here's what the "Zombie" race is all about. He's already laughing!

image

No, that's not "Jack" (in Z box), it's another Zombie racer.

image

The 3 Jeff's conduct the "racers" meeting prior to the start of the flat track race. L-R, Jeff Easterly, Jeff Bigelow, Jeff Bell.

image

Jeff Bigelow goes over the race day rules while Jeff Easterly does hand signs in Zombie language. Jeff Bell waiting for his turn. Rick Salvino can't believe what he's seeing and hearing. Boy these Zombies are crazy!

First heat race is in progress.

image

Jeff Easterly on the red lane and Doug Matthes on the black lane start their round robin heat.

image

That's Fred Hood trimming tires for his King track car.

image

Jeff Bigelow painted a lot of Zombie bodies for the race. "Smokie" also provided a lot of special Zombie paint masks to the racers. Thanks for all your work Jeff.

image

Harley Ratto begins preparing to BBQ the chicken.

image

It's almost time for Harley's BBQ to begin.

image

"The Vitter" (Dave Larsen) proudly holds the Zombie Race badge as he prepares his King track car. Dave and all the Zombie racers had a fun day with a lot of kidding and typical pit talking going on.

image

Back to the round robin action. L-R, Phil Nyland, Jeff Easterly, Dennis Samson, Richard Roehrig, John Cukras, Jeff Bell, Doug Matthes and Mike Aguirre.

image

Most of the NorCal racers were very familiar with the BPR MTT flat track. This MTT track was formerly located in Northern Cal (Chico).

image

Jeff Easterly has the "preying mantis" turn marshal pose mastered. Heather "Controller" Carington and Oscar Morales look on.

image

These Zombie racers are very focused on the racing. L-R, Mill Conroy, Richard Roehrig, Phil Nyland, Jeff Bell

image

Hey, who are these guys with the Crowns? L-R, Dennis Samson, Mike "Who" Aguirre, John Cukras, Mike Kravitz

image

The round robin format keeps all racers close to the action since "everyone" must turn marshall.

image

Tim Neja on the left and Paul Sterrett on the right join the round robin racing.

image

Bob Crane on the left and Floyd Todd on the right join in. That's Herman James next to Tim Neja and Bill Vanderziel between Oscar Morales and John Wakamatsu.

The 3rd place Zombie trophy. That's the Zombie trophy on the right for the most unlucky racer (last place finish).

image

D3 Can Am flat track race results. Congrats to Bryan Warmack on his victory with Dale Yamashita 2nd and Duran Trujillo 3rd

image

Jeff Bigelow is about to present the 3rd place trophy to Duran Trujillo. Bryan Warmack takes a look at Duran's car. It's turns out that Duran drove one of Mike Kravitz' cars which Bryan recently redid the front end using a mini torch! It made the chassis "relax".

image

Duran Trujillo with his well earned 3rd place Zombie trophy. His car was not the fastest, but Duran drove his typical great race.

image

Jeff Easterly presents Dale Yamashita the 2nd place trophy. Dale was a very close 2nd to the winner.

image

Jeff Bell awards a happy Bryan Warmack his 1st place Zombie trophy. Bryan and Dale Yamashita were on the same lap at the finish. Great racing guys!

image

Floyd Todd receives the Zombie back of the pack trophy. Floyd had a great time and drives plenty fast at his age. Oscar Morales looks on.

image

The first Zombie Can Am race podium, L-R, Dale Yamashita, Bryan Warmack, Duran Trujillo, Floyd Todd.

Duran drove one of Mike Kravitz' cars. Notice the front portion of the chassis has been reheated with a mini torch to "relax" this well worn chassis.

image

Sometimes you can resurrect a tweaked chassis. In this case. Bryan Warmack and his mini torch did the trick.

image

It's time for Tech Inspection for the Big Dog race. Dennis Samson checks the motors (should be a "Big Dog" armature).

image

Jim Fowler also checking for the "BD" label on the armature. It's not easy for our old eyes to see this tag inside the motor.

image

Tim Neja does the "Gauss" check. This is used to make sure no motor magnets have a significantly higher gauss reading.

image

40 cars line up for tech inspection prior to the start of the "Big Dog" motor race on the BPR King track.
