Div. 1, D3, Drag racing
Today is a special race day in remembrance of a great raceway owner and friend, Chris Gallegos.
It's early Saturday morning and BPR is already full with racers of all kinds (drag racing, wing and D3 races today).
I walked in at 7:15 am and couldn't find a pit station. There were 384 cars entered for today's Drag Races alone.
As well as our regularly scheduled monthly D3 F1 and Can Am races on the Flat track.
And a special Chris Gallegos Memorial race by the SoCal USRA Div. 1 wing racers. Today's special race is a 2 Motor Open G-7 race.
The BPR racers are quite a dedicated group of racers who all appreciated what Chris did to support Slot Car racing in SoCal.
It hasn't been the same since Chris' passing last March, but the racing goes on at BPR.
It was a great turnout in rememberance of a great raceway owner, Chris Gallegos.
First race today is the D3 F1 on the Flat track. 12 entries for today's monthly race.
SoCal D3 F1 qualifying results: Congrats to Dale Yamashita on his TQ of 4.688 sec. with Bryan Warmack 2nd and Doug Matthes 3rd

F1 "A" Main racers, L-R, Bryan Warmack, Gary Donahoe, Dale Yamashita, Mike Kravitz, Doug Matthes, John Cukras, Jonathan Forsyth, Paul Sterrett
The top 4 finishers ended the race within feet of each other.
Not really. Their lap totals were different, but it was a coincidence that they finished nearly side by side at the very end. Top is Doug Matthes' car (2nd), Bryan Warmack's 3rd place car and Dale Yamashita's winning F1 car on the black lane.
SoCal D3 F1 "A" Main race results: Congrats to Dale Yamashita on his win with Doug Matthes 2nd and Bryan Warmack 3rd.

It's BBQ time! Nothing like great racing and a great BBQ lunch to enjoy!
A lot of racers appreciated the BBQ lunch provided by Lenore Gallegos. Thanks for the great lunch food Lenore!
D3 Can Am tech inspection is first up after the BBQ.
Our benevolent D3 Dictator, Paul Sterrett's Can Am entry. Paul always produces a great looking car for all of the D3 races.
Paul is also a very progressive chassis designer. His shorter wheelbase/guide flag designs along with 64 pitch gears (more rearward motor position) provides a different approach to going faster.
Just another typical Bryan Warmack car. Meticulously prepared car by Bryan.
This Warmack kit car by its originator continues to be a major player in retro racing.
USRA Scale Racer Jonathan Forsyth's entry, a Richie Austin built chassis.
D3 newcomer Marc Franco's entry.
Marc is making fast progress since joining D3 recently. He's an expert at using a vibrator tumbler to polish his chassis.
Grammy winner, Jay Henry's Can Am entry.
Jay has been building some of his cars lately.
Just another McLaren entry. This time it's Dennis Samson's immaculate entry. Is Sterrett's or Samson's McLaren the right shade of Orange?
Chassis #143 built by Dennis.
USRA Scale racer Jason Holmes entry.
Duran built this chassis for Jason. It uses the front end from a Slick 7 kit. The motor bracket is an approved bracket made by another mfg.
SoCal D3 Can Am qualifying results: Congrats to Duran on his TQ of 4.494 sec. with Phil Nyland 2nd and Dale Yamashita 3rd

Can Am "B" Main race results: Congrats to Keith Tanaka on his win with Dennis Samson 2nd and Jay Henry edging out Mike Kravitz for 3rd
Can Am "B" Main podium: L-R, Dennis Samson 2nd, Keith Tanaka 1st, Jay Henry 3rd
SoCal D3 Can Am "A" Main race is ready to start.

SoCal D3 Can Am "A" Main podium: L-R, Phil Nyland 2nd, Duran Trujillo 1st, Jonathan Forsyth 3rd
Phil Nylands 2nd place Can Am car (Bryan Warmack loaner).
Duran Trujillo's winning Can Am car.
Note the bent motor bracket and skewed rear axle position.
Duran sustained the wall blast damage in the 4th heat.
Apparently it had no ill affects on the performance of the car or maybe Duran just drove another great race with a slightly misaligned rear axle. The misaligned rear axle may have helped his car handling the "left" turns on the BPR Flat track!!!
I didn't get photos of Jonathan Forsyth's 3rd place car except for the tech inspection photos.
Jonathan's chassis was built by Richie Austin.
