The Main Event, the 3rd Talladega Nights Modifieds race on the BPR King is next. These are inline 36D (rewound) hardbody NASCARs.
With a small field, we did not have Concours, but I decided to informally select a Concours winner. Rick Salvino's beautiful Richard Petty Dodge Charger was my choice.
Typical Salvino attention to detail.
Very nice looking NASCAR hardbody with an inline modified 36D motor.
A field of 7 for today's 3rd Talladega Nights race. Over the years, the field has decreased probably due to destroyed hardbodies from wall blasts!!!!!
3rd Talladega Nights racers, L-R, Rick Salvino, Adam Kirchhoffer, Bryan Warmack, John Wakamatsu, John Cukras, Keith Tanaka, Paul Sterrett
The 3rd installment of this "horsepower in the straight, tiptoe thru the turns" race had it's usual casualties. Here's John Cukras' car after a crash caused his body mount pins to disappear. He very quickly grabbed a roll of blue tape and wrapped it around the entire car in very quick order. He raced his car this way for several heats.
John's team mate, John Wakamatsu suffered the exact same fate. Only this time they used a regular masking tape color. I guess John's driver didn't need visibility.
3rd Talladega Nights Modifieds race results. Congrats to Paul Sterrett on his win with Keith Tanaka 2nd and Adam Kirchhoffer 3rd
3rd Talladega Nights Modifieds podium, L-R, Keith Tanaka 2nd (Salvino loaner car), Paul Sterrett 1st, Adam Kirchhoffer 3rd
The final race of the day combined two different hardbody classes, Trans Am with Corvettes/Cobras/Cheetahs.
Today's race had some new cars entered for their very first race. Here's Jim Watterson's Cobra. Jim's the new owner of BP along with his wife Debby.
Russell Van Wyck's new '53 Corvette.
Keith Tanaka's new '53 Corvette. The '53 Corvette body by Revell is one of the largest (width) for this class. It does have a short nose however.
Trans Am, Corvette/Cobra/Cheetah racers, L-R, Marc Franco, Paul Sterrett, Keith Tanaka, Ken Dylke, Russell Van Wyck, Jim Watterson, John Hartman, Herb Henricks
Trans Am, Corvette/Cobra/Cheetah race results. Congrats again to Paul Sterrett on his 3rd win today with Ken Dylke 2nd and Keith Tanaka 3rd
Trans Am, Cheetah/Corvette podum, L-R, Ken Dylke 2nd (Cheetah), Paul Sterrett 1st (Trans Am), Keith Tanaka 3rd (Corvette). Paul half jokingly said it's nice to have a Duran (Trujillo) day once in awhile. Yeah Paul, but Duran wasn't here today. Just kidding, 3 wins in 3 races is perfect.
